A Treasury of NZ Baking
A Treasury of NZ Baking, edited by Lauraine Jacobs, published by Random House and released in October 2009, immediately shot to number one on the non-fiction NZ best seller list.
New Zealand’s top food writers and chefs share their very favourite baking recipes and every single recipe is beautifully photographed by New Zealand’s top food photographer, Aaron McLean. Recipes range from the classic favourites to thoroughly up to date cakes and slices with blueberries, rhubarb and other delights.
It’s a stunning book with a very feel good story behind it as generosity is at the very core of the project. The legendary food writer Tui Flower wrote the ‘baking wisdom’ tips and hints, celebrity baker Dean Brettschneider flew in from Shanghai courtesy of Air New Zealand to bake every recipe for photography with the AUT patisserie students who worked hard over three days in the school’s kitchens. And the Auckland City Mission got to serve all the baking to the hungry and needy at the end of each day.
All the royalties from this book go to the Breast Cancer Foundation and as the book continues to sell beyond expectations, the Foundation stands to make a handsome sum.
It is a timeless book, beautifully produced with full colour illustrations in hard back, and is destined to become a New Zealand classic and a must for every cook who is interested in delicious, home baked goodies.
