Always Delicious
Published September 2018, Potton & Burton $49.99
After seven years as the food columnist for NZ Listener, I have chosen my favourites from more than 700 recipes published over that period. Fresh, vibrant and simple, there are almost 100 recipes for all occasions that are easy to make and vital for any kitchen.
Always Delicious is a book I am very proud of, as the recipes are interspersed with Food Talk — thought provoking ideas and opinions about New Zealand food. Publishers Potton and Burton have produced a truly beautiful book, with full page stunning photographs by Liz Clarkson, styled by Kate Arbuthnot.
I know that Listener readers keep their favourite recipes from the magazine each week so this collection highlights many of the most loved ideas, suited to a wide variety of occasions. Buttery braised fennel, Cheesy cauliflower and leek bread pudding, and Salmon and cucumber green curry are not-to-be-missed and worth having this book forever on your shelves. I firmly believe the modern cook is looking to make food with fresh, seasonal ingredients and that if it’s simple to make, they will be easy to eat. And above all, every bite of every meal must be Always Delicious.
The book is divided into six sections: Sensational salads and vital vegetables, Things to savour, Something fishy, Meat matters, Winging it (chicken and duck recipes) and Sweet as… which has delectable desserts, cakes and sweet things. There’s an emphasis on vegetable ideas as we all move to eating more healthily and every recipe has important headnotes with cooking tips and fascinating stories from the kitchen.
Most importantly, I hope these recipes will have you energised to get into the kitchen, be excited about cooking and enjoying really delicious food.
